Football Legend and “King of the Jungle” Harry Redknapp joins HEROS Charity as Patron.

HEROS Charity are thrilled to announce the appointment of football legend and former King of the Jungle, Harry Redknapp as Patron. After a visit to HEROS based at North Farm Stud, near Wantage, Harry was delighted to accept the position.

HEROS Charity, retrains and rehomes former racehorses and is an education setting for special educational needs (SEN) students who aren’t thriving in a mainstream school setting. As a racehorse owner and horseracing fan, Harry understands the importance of the work HEROS does with thoroughbreds to give them a life after racing and he also recognises and appreciates how essential it is to have education provisions for young people, who struggle to learn in a traditional classroom.

HEROS is growing all the time, particularly, the education programmes, a new exciting and highly anticipated Forest School project has been recently launched. Students will learn and experience all things about nature including outdoor cooking, tool craft and team building. Harry can relate to these practices from his experience on ITV’s I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, where he was crowned King of the Jungle in 2018.

Harry Redknapp commented: ‘Grace Muir invited me to HEROS, pretty soon into my visit, I knew HEROS was something I wanted to be involved in. As a racehorse owner and racing fan, I think it is so important that we make sure these fantastic animals, who give us so much fun on the track, have the best chance of a fulfilling life after racing. I was really taken by the education department at HEROS, particularly the Forest School. Giving youngsters the chance to learn in an environment like HEROS, is very special. If you don’t fit into the mainstream classroom routine, it shouldn’t restrict your opportunity to learn, so I believe an education provision like HEROS is both essential and fantastic. I am looking forward to working with and supporting HEROS.’

HEROS founder and CEO, Grace Muir commented: ‘We are absolutely thrilled to appoint Harry as patron of HEROS, having someone of his profile is huge for us. When Harry came to visit HEROS, he immediately lit up the faces of our team and students alike. It was obvious to see what a kind and generous person he is, and we are so grateful that he has accepted the role as patron. We are really excited to work with Harry to further raise the profile of HEROS and on new initiatives and events we have in the pipeline.’
