Introduction to programme
Level 1 in Horse Care is a fundamental pathway to a level 2 Diploma and then an apprenticeship role across all equine disciplines.
Our Horse Care Diploma Level 1 will give you a taste of what is like to work in the UK’s equine industry. During the course, you will gain the fundamental knowledge and practical skills needed to look after horses in commercial setting. HEROS is based within North Farm Stud so that you will observe the running of a professional yard. The course includes modules on horse care, riding (if the riding pathway is chosen), health and safety, feeding, grooming, cleaning equipment, and handling, and carrying out routine yard duties. The course combines a range of practical subjects together with theoretical activities.
Students can chose between a riding and a non-riding pathway. The course is assessed through a combination of tutor observations, assessor guided discussions, and portfolio work.
