HEROS Charity Education offers a variety of HOLIDAY ACTIVITY CAMPS during the school holidays which provide young people with an exciting range of activities to take part in. These are available to schools, local councils and to Housing Associations too. We are able to create the perfect bespoke holiday camp experience the young people who are interested in learning more about horses and/or race horses.



Introduction to Racing (2 weeks, Monday to Friday): Introduction to Racing provides young people with a fun, and safe environment to learn more about horseracing and racehorses.

Qualification: Learners will complete the 1st4Sport Level 1 Award- Introduction to Horseracing.

Cost: £400.00 for the full course

Specialist race/work riding: For young people with a keen interest in developing their fitness on an equisizer, going racing and gaining experience with ex-racehorses.This intense week long course will teach them the basic ‘race/work riding’ techniques needed to get a leg up in racing and include games, tournaments and prizes.

NB: Some basic horse handling skills would be advantageous

Numbers with horses:  This course has been designed with maths in mind! If extra support is needed or the young people just need a fresh face, HEROS Charity Education have a whole host of highly trained teaching staff that can deliver structured and proactive sessions to compliment the National Curriculum.

Work Experience preparation: A week long course designed to help with the basic skills required when aiming to gain a work experience placement in the racing industry.

Accomodation options can be discussed (over 17’s only) .

The qualifications are supported by the BHA as the Governing Body of horseracing in the United Kingdom. Technical experts from within the BHA have provided technical advice with the development of all qualifications.

Special requirements

  • Long or short riding boots – must have a smooth sole
  • Half chaps or gaiters may be worn
  • Riding hat (kite mark BSEN1384 or PAS 015)
  • Gloves
  • Short whip and body protector (only required if riding on the course)
  • Pen, folder and paper
  • Tetanus vaccination must be up to date
